Looking at these ballasts, they look good so far. But can you run NO bulbs on them.
And as for both Icecap and LN ballasts, can you run both NO and VHO bulbs at the same time? I don't think so, but just wanted to ask.
Also, who is running this ballast. And do you have any pictures?

TIA

One thing you might want to keep in mind when considering this LN ballast- it can only run 4 flourescent lamps. Other ballasts will allow you to run any place between 1 and 4 lamps, and will also allow you to use PC bulbs.

Kind of looks like if all you wanted to run were some VHO bulbs, this would be a good ballast. But the sheer versitality of the Icecap, let alone all the other good points, makes up for the large price difference.

Howdy,

I purchased the same setup from lampsnow.com and it works perfectly. I ran NO bulbs with it first because I wanted to get the coralline algae growing really well on my last tank.

It ran the NO for over 5 months with no problems. I can't comment on whether it is more reliable than an icecap, since I have never owned an icecap ballast. I CAN say that the LN ballast has never given me any problems and has been going strong for over a year without any glitches.

As for bulb configurations, that wasn't a big concern with me. I needed four 4' VHO bulbs over my 80g. The only time the LN setup might be drag is if you wanted to switch to two 6' VHO bulbs, because you can't. But, this wasn't something I even considered.

If you have a 4' or smaller tank, want higher output lihgting so you can keep most corals, and don't have $300 to spend on an icecap ballast, buy the LN setup. You won't be dissapointed. I chose to buy it from lampsnow.com because they are local to me, and I got the shipment in 2 days.

Hope that helps,

Scott.

I e-mailed Lampsnow and they said they do not recommend using NO bulbs with this fixture at all. I wondered the same thing when I first saw them.
