I just purchased a lifereef sump and downdraft protein skimmer in the equipment traiding board. The sump is awsome but the skimmer is in a few more peices then it should be. Both the downdraft and riser tube were broken off the box. These are not clean breaks. I was thinking about getting tubing that has a very close ID tollerance to that of each of the tubes OD. Slipping the tube s over the broken ones and then Weldon #40 them to their locations. Any other ideas would be appriciated.

Thanks

Walter

How much did you pay for the skimmer? What size of the tank are you planning on using it on? You may want to consider getting a brand new unit/type.

It has a 56in down draft tube and a 48in riser. I paid 100 clams for it but thats not the point. I hate to discard anything that Jeff, lifereef, has built. There has to be a solution. The skimmer will be going on a 250 in about 6 months when all of the construction is done. My wife is actually letting me build an addition of a sitting room for the tank.

Did it break in shipping? Maybe you should send it back to the person you bought it from (maybe they're dishonest and sent you a broken piece of equipment) or contact the shipper (was it insured?). If you're going to repair it (is it PVC or acrylic?) you're going to want to have smooth edges, and then just use a coupling to attach them again. It may be tough to cut a smooth edge if it's cracked, though, but just do it slowly, and wet it down as you're doing it. Then use a coupling and attach it with the appropriate glues/solvents.
