Help with tang.

I recently noticed my tang has a cloud on his eye and also some fuzzy looking stuff on his fins and sides. I have a 10 gal. tank I can use for a hospital tank, what would be the right product to cure him with? Thanks.

I'd give him a dose of Maracyn and Maracyn 2. Sounds like it's most likely bacterial.

jmeader, old reliable. Do I need to quarintine the fish.

Treat him in the hosp tank. I'd say about 5 to 8 days.

jmeader, got him in the hospital tank last night (10/15) about 10:00 pm. Got maracyn to treat him. He seems to be doing alright. I feed him this morning and he ate well.

I used to have a tang that developed cloudy eye when stressed introduced to the tank. However it recovered quickly (in 2 days) after eating and feasting on algae.

Has your tang in the Hospital tank started feeding yet? What have you been feeding him? Try give him a vitamin (selcon) boost in the food. As long as his immune system is getting recovered, the cloudy eye should clear up quickly.

He has been eating well for at least 4 days know. The cloud disappeared after about 2 days on his eye, but the eye still seems to be protuding out, with a small white ring on the eye. He is acting his old self, I just don't want to put him back into the main tank until I know he is cured. If you know what I mean. Thanks.

Ok I have had my tang in the hospital tank for 5 days know. He seems to have gotten better. Most of the white fluffy stuff has left his fins and body. He is swimming around with more energy and seems to be vibrant. Only one thing is still bothering me though. His eye still seems to be popped out a little, with a small ring on it. Do you think the maracyn has done all it will? Should I try something else before releasing him back into the main tank? Help would be appreciated. Thanks, Doug.

Sounds to me like your doing pretty well. If the clouds are gone from the eyes, I think it will be alright. It can take a long time for the eye to get back to normal. At least you got it before it became too advanced and blinded the fish.
