HSA or ETS?

Which one of these type is the better one? I'm interested in buying a larger one(HSA 1000). I've been using a 48" MTC venturi/counter current for around 6 years now. I want something that is easier to maintain (if possible), and something that'll handle a 500gal reef heavily stocked. I don't have the 500 gal yet but its in the works.

Hi:
Both are top quality skimmers, and both will work fine for you, as long as you match the appropiate large powerful pump w/ them.
Also consider large euroreefs, large precisionmarine.com bullet skimmers
I would check on the ratings thou, i don't believe an HSA1000 will be large enuf (or process enuf water for 500gals).

I would look into aerofoamers ,bullets or have MYREEF make you one= cheaper.ETS are just like becket skimmers but have much large bubbles= not as good.

My ETS(clone) cheaper, is doing a hell of a job actually it's doing a fantastic job on my 110gal with a mag950 pump, cya.

I checked My Reef's skimmers out, they look tempting. Why does a becket skimmer make smaller bubbles than a downdraft. Is there more maintinence involved with a becket?

One other thing about the My Reefs' skimmers is that he is making them so you can upgrade the larger models. I thought about getting the mr 3 but with taller riser. This skimmer is also made now with the option of adding a additional injector down the rode.

No I haven't elimated it yet, I haven't seen one in action yet neither.

[500 G]

I am using a Lifereef VS3 72" on my 180 and will be using on my 500. You can run this skimmer 2 ways. 1. As a recirculation and counter current. Separate feed pump to top of skimmer and a separate pump to run venturi. This pump constantly recycles water in skimmer, very efficient. 2. Direct from sump and couter current. One pump to feed water from sump to skimmer. Tee it off just before venturi and feed inlet on top of skimmer for counter current.

Euroreefs are good but I want my skimmer out of sump and I like to be able to use any pump. MYREEF is cheaper in cost also. Becket skimmers make smaller bubbles = becket. the becket needs to be cleaned probally evey 2-3 mo easy soak in vinager. having an upgradble skimmer is good. But IMO bekcet skimmers are the best. Euroreef second IMO for my needs
