I am considering using phosphate remover in my tank to see if it would help a small algae problem. If I use phosphate remover, will it cause my macro algaes;calurpa, halimeda to die back?
If I have a nutrient problem in my tank (125, would the macros use up the nutrients as quickly as the phosphate remover? Or is phosphate a result of nutrients being in the tank, whereas phosphate remover declines the phosphate level and macros declines the nutrient levels? OR are nutrients and phosphate one in the same?
I've never heard anything about phosphate remover adversely affecting macroalgae. Sounds like circumstantial evidence to me. However, phosphate remover (like carbon) had a limited capacity which once used can take on no more phosphate. Overall their capacities in general are quite small in the first place. What I'm saying is they might work for a small tank with a small amount of phosphate but probably won't put much of a dent on a serious phosphate problem. You're energies and money are better spend finding the source of the phosphate and fixing that instead. Test you're water, look in to RO/DI or replace you're DI cartridge if its giving you a reading.
