Has anyone used or heard anything about Chem Marin's product called Stop Aptasia. I am having a huge growth of aptasia and have tried the hot water injections and the Kalk injections but there are so many of them it's out of control. My only other option, although I would rather not add another fish, is to add a butterfly to eat them and then hope it lives after they're all gone. Thanks

Yes, it has killed aptaisa for us but only if you sneak up and squirt it right into it's mouth, otherwise they seem come back invigorated and ready to duplicate.

It's never worked for me. I've had good luck with peppermint shrimp and good ole hot kalk. The kalk works every time for me.

Stop Aiptasia will work in direct application to individual Aip's, as will Kalk Paste. Trouble with either of these methods is that it is virtually impossible to get to all of the ones hidden in and behind the rocks. I tried them both but it took a pair of Peppermint Shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni) to finally get rid of all of them. Be aware that Rynchocinetes uritai (Camelback shrimp) are often sold as peppermints but they are not Aiptasia eaters but do have a taste for coral polyps!

Pep's don't seem to bother the large ones but the big ones are prime candidates for Stop Aiptasia or Kalk injection.
One caveat with Kalk paste: If you use too much in the tank at once, you may upset the pH. Stop Aiptasia had no effect on my water quality except for the green skimmate!
For a comprehensive site that discusses Aiptasia and removal, see Joaco's site: http://www.wyx.com/iheo/tank/aiptasia.htm

Once the peppermint shrimp has eaten all of the aptaisa, can it be left in a reef tank or will it eat the corals too??????
