I'm getting mixed information whether this fish, Forcipiger flavissimus (Yellow Longnose Butterflyfish), is "reef safe" or not. Does anybody have experience with this fish in a reef tank? Does it nip/pick corals, shrooms or anemones? what about Giant Clams and Feather Dusters?

And how long could this fish live in captivity? I'm gathering information on this fish to put together a web page, I have a few

other questions here if you could help also. It's on another board if you don't mind.

Thanks!

The big yellow longnose is an extremely hearty and active fish. Mine ate five minutes after putting him in the tank. Very cool to watch...sleeps upside down under an overhang. I kept mine for only a couple of months and had to remove him. No prob with softies or SPS. Big problem with clams. My Potter's cleared out my dusters so I don't know about them...99% sure he would suck them up like spaghetti.

Thanks for your reply. Are you talking about F. flavissimus (Yellow Longnose Butterflyfish), or F. longirostris (Big Longnose Butterflyfish)?

From my studies the big longnose is known to be easier to keep than the small longnose.
