The new skimmer is out and I wanted to get anybody's opinion on this skimmer or the euroreef skimmer. Has anyone purchase the below mentioned or how do you like the older version of?

EV - 120 Spray Injection Protein Skimmer The EV-120 replaces our EV-90, which earned the reputation as one of the most compact performance skimmers on the market. Only 18" tall, the new 120 continues this tradition of super foam fractionation in a compact package. This skimmer should easily fit in your sump and with its raised gate valve (10") you won't need to worry about inconsistent performance due to sump fluctuations. No other skimmer on the market can generate this much foam and performance from such a small pump. New features for 2002 • Designed to sit directly on sump bottom - up to 9" of sump depth • 3/8" precision ball valve for air flow control • Super silent - you won't hear it running • Virtually no bubble return to sump - we guarantee it • Twist-Lock flanges make for secure connection without screws • Mixing box has been increased by 40% = greater contact time • Larger collection cup drain • John Guest Speedfit fitting optional for calcium reactor hook-up • Larger, wider diameter foam tower Specifics • Height: 18" • Footprint: 8.5" x 4.75" • Input: 3/4" hose barb • Output: 1" gate valve • ¼" John Guest "Speedfit" fitting on ozone/calcium reactor models • 3/8" FTP air inlet with precision ball valve for foam tuning • 5/8" collection cup drain • 4" x 6" OD foam tower • Auto-waste container compatible - flanges feature EPDM gaskets • Patented Spray Injection System (U.S. Patent # 6,156,209) Installation • In-Sump • Stand-Beside • Inline with sump Recommended Pump • Mag 500 • Rio 2100 • Dolphin DP-560 • Iwaki 20 RLT *All of the above pumps have been tested with this skimmer and meet our high standards for performance. If you have a question regarding pump choices please contact us!

I have an EV-150, its not as good as other skimmers I've owned. But it gets the job done and the new model sounds like it has a LOT of improvements. My biggest problem with the EV150 is making adjustments. The new line has 2 nice features to make that easier. One, the output gatevalve is much higher so the performance will not be affected by the sump level. This totally makes sense because the water level inside the skimmer is at least as high as the new location of the bulkhead. As well, the bulkhead is now located on the side of the skimmer making its footprint more convenient to fit in a sump. Two, you can adjust the airflow. This is very handy since you can cut the airflow off so you can actually SEE the waterlevel inside the skimmer when making adjustments. What I'd still like to see is a clear base so you don't need a bright light to see the waterlevel inside.

That said, if I had to do it again I'd probably go with one of the PM knockoffs from myreef. Euroreef may be all the rage, but you are using a proprietary pump and impeller which spells hassle down the line.

I just installed an EV-120 on my 92 bowfront corner and I will update you as it breaks in.
So far there is a very active mass of bubbles, just starting to foam at the top. It looks like it is creating more foam than my Turboflotor, but only time will tell!
The adjustments do seem easy with the gatevalve higher, it just takes a small twist.

Just put a Ev-180 on a 125gal reef...at first didn't do too much, but after breaking in and getting the right level, it works like a charm. Haven't had to mess with it at all. Quiet as can be. I had a euro-reef previously and it is definiately easy to setup and maintain. Almost too easy for me...I like having something to do once in a while. Both seem to work out really nice. No problems here with it....it does clean up the water nicely.

Just put the ev-180 on my new 120, it's still breaking in but i'm impressed with the amount of air in the water.

When the owner's manual recommends running the overflow back into the sump at first because initially it may create a lot of bubbles they are not kidding. Mine filled up the cup and a PM overflow container in about an hour. Now I have it closer to dialed in and it seems to be working very well.

I've looked at the new ev-120 & I like the changes very much to the 2002 model. My 50gal has been running for two weeksish now & I'm planning on purchasing the ev-120 in the next couple of weeks, I'll post how it performs.

Now that my Ev-180 has broken in....it works great. No adjustments, just works really well. Pulls out tons of stuff. It does make you wonder if it is going to work during the break in period however....once it starts, it only gets better.
My previous euroreef was easy to setup, but I had problems with it.
