I snagged a pretty big crab from my 75g tonight, and for lack of any place to put him I threw him into the 3g I have setup to house my 3" mantis shrimp. As soon as the crab went in he tried to hide in the mantis hole, but the shrimp gave it three good whacks and sent it packing.

I'll let you know if the crab is still alive in the morning. This is so entertaining!

I think there will be enough respect between the two, providing adequate space, for them both to coexist. But in Tank Vs Super Gun, my vote goes for the shrimp.

Depends on the size of the crab. I've paired off a mantis abainst a crab of about the same size. The next morning the crab was in pieces.

Enkidu, do you also attend dog fights?

If you can't keep the crab, give it to someone who can. We don't keep pets for gladitorial entertainment.

Im glad someone said it before me steve.

Aren't we in this hobby to learn and benefit? I see no benefit from putting to bettas in a tank together as I see no benefit in what you are doing.

As of this morning all tank inhabitants are alive.

At this point I am torn as to what I'd like to happen. On one hand, I want to give the mantis some live food so that its clubs don't atrophy (I've just been feeding it little pieces of scallop). But on the other hand it would be nice to get some more life in that tank. Its pretty barren with only an urchin and an astrea snail to keep the mantis company.

Thats funny. Well, if you insist: If theres anyone in the Seattle area who wants a red, hairy-legged crab with a taste for GSP and other corals, please let me know. ASAP!
