Uhhh guppy what do you think results from a fish in water with poor quality??? STRESS.
Stress is the main cause of illness because it depresses the immune system.
And yes the move from the Q tank will cause additional stress on the fish and not necessarily prevent anything other than the possible introduction of a nasty bacterial pathogen into your main tank. The Q tank should be setup naturally i.e. sand and liverock but minimal lighting and in a low traffic area or the sides blocked off. This will give the fish a chance to adapt and calm down from all the shipping stress. Match the temp and salinity to the main tank, OR match your local LFS's numbers and then raise slowly over the Q period to match your main tank to ease the transition.

Yes, ich is ALWAYS present in our tanks. A healthy fish won´t suffer from ich never, but if he gets stressed or scared due to anormal lights period or something else, his defenses (immune system) will decrease, and he will get ich.
Just like us, if we are in stress or we suffer sudden temp changes our defenses go down and we get the flu.

We don't advocate hyposalinity. As was stated above ICH is ever present. For those that have widespread problems it is usually from a rather obvious stressor and eliminating that solves the problem usually with the addition of a reef-safe chemical like No-ICH or Kick-ICH.
In-store we use natural conditions and just don't get widespread outbreaks. I had a total of TWO major outbreaks of cryptocaryon in my main system last year. Both were results of rushing fish shipments out of Quarentine which resulted in a bacterial pathogen being introduced which caused some cryptocaryon to develop. Fish loss of the of the non-related(shipment) fish was minimal and the problem corrected itself with the use of heavy feeding with food soaked in Garlic and Metrodiazonal(sp?) Lesson learned. No matter how empty my tanks look, fish do not leave quarentine until they are ready to leave Q. Our Quarentine system is about 200 gallons with sandbed and liverock - reduced lighting and blocked from view of the customers (to reduce traffic stress on the fish).

Stress does not cause ich. A parasite called Cryptocaryon irritans does. Stress only makes fish more susceptible to infection. If ich is present in your tank, and fish are otherwise healthy and not stressed, they can fight off any infection naturally.

If you purchase a fish, quarantine it but don't treat for possible ich parasites, than chances are you will be introducing ich to a tank. JMHO

Mouse that is not correct. I can get Cryptocaryon in your tank tomorrow. If I fly to England, and temp swing your tank or cause some other stressor your tank is gonna break out. I guarentee it.
