The new pond construction has begun, but now I'm kind of stuck as to what to use for my overflow conduit. I have a 2 inch shower bulkhead drilled into the side of the pond (a 300 gallon rubbermaid tub) approximately 2-3 inches from the lip. I've installed an exhaust vent bird grate over that to prevent fishies and such from being sucked down the overflow. Now I am trying to figure out if I should install a clean out on the outside of the bulkhead, or just run it straight into a nipple. The other dilemna is the flexible hose I am going to use. I have found some food grade liquid hose that has a 2 inch inside diameter, and it is the same type of hose that is used on soda fountains (clear with a very tight mesh reinforcement). Does anyone know of any other 2" ID hose that is available for cheap? I am going to order this hose from McMaster Carr when all the piping is done and ready to be cemented, so I have time to play around and change the type of hose I'm going to use. The minimum order is 5 feet at $3.98 per foot, but I really only need a foot or less to bridge the gap between the main tub and the 150 gallon sump. In the alternative, does anyone need a few feet of 2" ID hose if I buy some? By the way, the reason I am using 2" ID hose is to maintain a consistent diameter in the piping in case I decide I need to upgrade to a pump that will turn the tub over once every couple of minutes (a pool pump) which is the same reason I mounted the bulkhead so far below the lip. This is also a reason that I might use the cleanout, to allow me in the future to avoid a siphon and just allow the water to flow if I upgrade my pumps.
