what affects coral color?

What do you guys think the most important factor is in good coral coloration? I have read light intensity, the amount of UV, the alkinlity, the ph, etc? I believe all play a role, but in what order? I would think insensity, alkalinity, all others.

IME corals in lower light exhibit much darker, more colorful hues. This is the exact opposite of what others believe but I can't deny what I've seen.
