OK I have been propagating my mushrooms using the slice and dice technique. Today was my third attempt and since I have had 100% survivial in the frags, I decided to do a BIG shroom for a change.

When I sliced the pedal disc from its attaching piece of rock I found what has to be an egg mass of about 40 eggs. GRRRR>>>> makes me wish I had chosen a small one as usual because I think this shroom was about to spawn.

i dont know whether to be happy because it evidently was doing well enough to spawn or mad because I think I probably wasted the eggs seperating the shroom from the rock.

I placed the shroom eggmass and all in my normal growout container. A 3 inch pvc endcap with some live sand covered with wedding veil in the bottom of my tank.

I have several other large purple shrooms about the same size. My question is are they about to spawn too ? will one spawning cause the others to spawn ? Do the eggs have any chance of survivial ?

I I usually leave the shroom pieces in the cup for about ten days til the attach to some sand and get a round shape then superglue the sand to a rock.

What should I do ????

I have seen on TV (like National Geographic), where one or two corals start spawning and it triggers the whole colony to spawn, whether this applies to mushrooms too, I can't say.
I have never heard of slicing and dicing mushrooms for propagation. Even though right now I don't need to do this (I'm running out of room as it is), this is a good thing to know for the future! Thanks Rich-n-poor!!
BTW, when you initally slice the base (off the rock), does another mushroom grow out of that?

if you leave enough pedal disc yes. The trick is to not cut up the shroom to small 4 pieces is what i get from an average size shroom. Cut thru the center so each piece has part of the central mouth put them in a protective place such as a pvc endcap and wait about 10 days they will round out and attach to sang just glue the sand to some rock.

There is a page called the coral propagation page I wish i could post the link for you.

Egg mass from a shroom?? I thought they only reproduced via fission or laceration.
What genus are you talking about? (Actinodiscus, Amplexidiscus, Discosoma or Rhodactis?)
Or what's the common name?

I doubt you saw an egg mass from a mushroom. My guess is if they were actually eggs, you've got a parasite living in your mushroom. I don't think that mushrooms have "eggs" to begin with, but if they do, you would not be able to count them.

they are purple mushroom , bullseye maybe I will find you name when I have time.

I recall researching on other sites where i found the propagation technique. On one site they had a picture of a shroom expelling an egg mass. excellent picture. this looks exactly the same as that picture but the mass was still inside the shroom near the base of the pedal disc.
