As noted in the subject, I have the CSL 2X96 watt power compact hood. Right now I am running a 10000K and an actinic 03 bulb. I like the look of tanks with more actininc bulbs and thus more flourescent. If i were to get a 50/50 bulb (with 1/2 10000K and 1/2 actinic) and use that with the actinic 03 would I get the desired effect? I know the wattage would be the same, but would the quality of light needed by the corals be equally as good or not as good?

Thanks in advance for all advice

I run all smartlamp 50/50s on my tank w/o any problems and I like the look. I think your choice of lighting depends on the types of corals you want to keep.

Good Luck

Running 2 50/50 bulbs would be the same as having one daylight bulb and one actinic wouldn't it? I want to run one 50/50 and one actinic so the lighting is 75% actinic and 25% daylight.

Again it depends on the types of corals you have or going to keep. Some corals thrive under brighter light while others do better under bluer. In my tank 50/50 is a happy medium and everything is happy. The only way to know for sure is to try it and see if there are any ill effects from the bluer spectrum. If everything is happy and you like the look of the blue then there you go.

Good Luck

Reiterating what the others have said, using one 50/50 and one actinic will give you a nice bluish tank, but you must also remember the ligting requirements of the inhabitants. If they all come from deeper water you should have no problems. If you have any shallow water specimens, you may want to stick with the 10K.
