Just had a thought...
Running those little nylon socks filled with Carbon in my tank right now because of the move. And I always hate emptying them... real PIA. You get the stuff all over, it's best to do it outside so as not to make a mess and upset the wife. And then I wondered what it would do to the Soil to have some of that extra carbon flying all around... well considering it's been soaking up all kinds of DOC's, Phosphate, and all manner of other stuff out of my tank for a week... And it's organically based to begin with.... I was thinking it might not be all that bad for the ground? Whatchyall think?

That's exactly what I was thinking... run it under tap water real well to rinse off the excess salts. After that... It's actually pretty good fertilizer, isn't it? I mean Charcoal is wood burned w/o oxygen - so it should decompose in the soil after a year or two, and the nutrients that it sucked up out of my tank will then be released back into the ground... Now I can empty my Carbon socks outside, keeping the house neat (and my wife happier), while helping out the shrubs to boot!

Thanks for the feedback. Nice being able to bounce Idea's off people.
