adding deep sand sand bed

i am planning on adding a deep sand bed to my tank. now i have about 1/4 inch of sand in there. today i captured about half the live sand i plan to add. should i waight untill i have it all (tomorrow) and add it all at once, or would it be better to add it slowly. thak you
