I have seen a D.A.S tank for sell i might try to buy.(havent seen in in person its 6 hours away) Not sure on the quality, Its a glass 75 flat back hex with overflow and filter. I dont think it has a skimmer built in. Any info on the system would be great, as far as i know the company's gone. Thanks for the great board!

We've sold a few. Very pretty, but strange construction. One of our customers bought a 115 gallon DAS from us and it had two glass plates forming the bottom with only a small (about 1/8") silicone bead between them - it was just a butt joint, no overlap or extra reinforcement.

When it was a little over a year old the bottom seam started to leak. We contacted DAS and so did our customer. They basically said "tough, the warranty has expired."

We ended up rebuilding it completely for him. Had to cut out all the existing joints, add a 3" wide glass strip over the bottom seam, and re-silicone the entire tank.

We won't be carrying them anymore.

yeah id say 800 bucks is to high if you have to strip the whole think apart in the future and rebuild it all from scratch!

If it is an Ecolux model - MDF furniture covered in a vinyl type coating. It would sell new for about $900 bucks plus shipping.

If it is real wood it's a custom or deluxe model and would retail for $987 - $1150 plus shipping.

The furniture is always really nice but for that kinda money I'd buy a NEW Oceanic.

Anyone else that owns or has seen a DAS tank?
I would like an opinion on the build quality of the DAS glass tank compared to an oceanic tank? Another option has come up and I cant find anything on the web about this system. Thanks

Coralgrower,
Don't buy the DAS! I'm the customer who had to tear down his beloved reef. The construction wasn't bad except for the silicone issue. The main issue is that there is nobody there to answer any questions. Also, they are overpriced for the quality. If you're really set on DAS, I have a larger one for sale with new silicone seams! Whats the option? or call us at the shop. Since I'm a former DAS dealer I can probably answer your questions or look it up in the catalog.

IMO Oceanic's are MUCH stronger tanks and are backed by a better warranty. Oceanic uses A LOT of silcone very nicely applied. DAS uses Silicone like it's made of platinum or something.
