Hello everyone.

Just wanted to tell everyone about my new tank setup. It is quite small, but I hope to make it nice. It has been started for two days.

12g acrylic tank (20"w/14"h/10"d)
Built in wet-dry w/ bio removed
MaxiJet 900 return pump
bag of Kent Marine carbon
16" Lee's Aquarium counter current skimmer
Tetra luft pump w/ limewood
8g saltwater
20lb Arag-alive (avg. 2.75" depth)
6 lbs. fiji rock
Ebo-Jager 75w heater

I plan on waiting a few weeks for the tank to cycle before getting any livestock, so don't flame me about taking it slow. I already know.

Anyways, just have a few questions to ask you guys.

1. I did not cure the rock. I did rinse it and remove obviously dead things, but did not cure. I should make a huge water change, so how much and when?

2. I have not purchased lighting for the tank yet, but would like something effective yet economical. Invert-wise, I hope to get one of the hardier anemones (they are a little tough right?), and soft coral frags and mushrooms.

3. Gimme fish suggestions! I would like a mated pair of fish. I have been told clowns and firefish are good mated pairs and reasonably hardy. If I don't go with a pair, I guess one fish would be ok, but then it has to look kickass.
I really like tangs, but as far as I know my tank is way too small for any specie. I wouldn't mind a gobie or wrasse though if I don't get a mated pair. suggestions?

4. Any suggestions for my setup? I think I could use some more live rock, but I don't really like the rock stacked to the top look. Hopefully, the overpriced 20lb arag-alive will provide adequate nutrient processing. Any one in the LA area wanna donate a small sample of live sand.

5. A comment for all you nano-reefers out there. Although a Lee's Aquarium skimmer sounds mad ghetto, I am very impressed with its performance. Within a few hours of use, I now have a lot of gunk in my skimmer. I can tell that it's working very well, because the bubbles are really tiny and I can see the counter current action happening. So for any of you on a budget with a smallish tank, I highly recommend it. Yes, you need a really good airpump like Tetra Luft, but you cannot beat the performance for less.

6. Anyone know if Kent Marine carbon leeches phosphates? If so I'll remove it.
