adding deep sand bed

i am going to add a deep sand bed to my already 1/4 inch deep bed. i captured about half the sand i will need yesterday, and could get the rest today. Could someone tell me if it would be best to add it all at once, or slowly over the course of a few days. thanks

put everything in there all at once and make sure its about 3-4 inches deep...how big is your tank and what do you have in it so far..and how long has it been up?...

I added mine slowly over the course of a month. I followed the advice of others here on the BB and used a 2in diameter PVC pipe and funneled it down to the bottom with a slight clouding. After a month I had a 4-5 inch sand bed.

The other reason for adding it slowly is that it will not kill all of the good bacteria by starving it of o2. Plus you do not want to smother the good critters already living in the bed.
