I have an extra UPS (uninterruptable Power Supply) I was thinking of hooking up to my return pump. I know it would not supply power for very long (I guess 10 minutes or so), but our outages are usually only a few minutes.

Does anyone know why I should NOT do this. The technical specs say it is designed for home PC use.

Thanks!

Paul

I have an APC UPS on tow of my tanks (on the main return pump). The UPS I bought will run my pumps for almost 4 hours before cutting out (I've tested it). No reason not to put one on.

I run an APC UPS on my 55 gal. I orginall had it for the pumps only which would run for a couple hours, after I moved to my new apt. I now have the lights and skimmer running off it and I still get a good output.

Another bonus is a UPS provides a consistant current so when you plug your vacum the power to the tank doesn't receive that power glich. Most ups also act as a surge protector.

Paul.

I also have a UPS but I also went to a local wal-mart and bought a live well pump. it was about 19.00 and does 300 gph. it is 12 volt in an extended power outage you can use a 12volt latern battery or even a car battery. it works well if you are having issues with power outagges
