Morning!

So here is an off the wall request from a fellow reefer in ohio..

I have a friend who lives in brooklyn. She really wants to set up a saltwater aquarium.

She doesnt know a thing about them however... Especially the costs associated with setting up a tank..

So I know here in columbus there is a pretty good selection of used equiptment available..

Could you guys provide me with the basics of best places to find used equiptment, cheap supplies, RO systems, etc..

Best reef stores in the area..

Thanks!

Not aware of to many brick and mortar places that you can go to get used equipment. Ther for sale threads here are very good, and a lot of equipment can be found that way. We also have quite of few vendors on the forum, who can get whatever you need and their prices are very competative.

I live in north columbus, polaris area.

I plan on helping her set up the tank over memorial day weekend.. Obviously cant do it all in one weekend, but Id like to help her get the tank set up and running, rockscaped, etc..

So that we can at least be ready to go when I get there, I figure first thing to get her set up with is a reverse osmosis system..

im not sure where she lives.. Ill get that info shortly.

Im worried as I give her more details shes going to want a tank less.. her first initial challenge will likely be where to install a RO system. They have a dishwasher in the kitchen, and no cabinet under the bathroom sink.

What options have you guys used? With no basement to run plumbing into, and no bathroom cabinet Im not sure where to install one..

I know a lot of people who use a faucet adapter whne they need to make purified water. I think in city living that is the best bet. Your friend should join the board! Here at MR we are all family! ;)

Im sure she will once shes ready to start up.. We had a nice hour long conversation last night on the intracies of reef aquariums.

So shortly I will probably be posting information in the WTB forum..

But so far, what I have gathered is that she has a wall she intends to put the tank in front of.. The wall is 35' wide, and she wants it that long or less, so that rules out quite a few tanks.

Im wondering what sizes that leaves her open to.. I think a 40 gallon tall is still 36' wide.

I know there is a site that has measurements for all the size tanks.. Ill have to find that again.

Anyone have a faucet RO system for sale, or a link to a good place to find them?

I'll have to ask her about a corner..

Im encouraging her to buy used though, so we may have to be flexible in what she wants to buy.

She currently wants to use an old 25 (or so) gallon tank she says she has at her parents home in PA.. Im wondering if thats even worth it considering its probably not drilled, and who knows if its reef ready..

Im not even sure what precautions need to be taken to make sure the tank didnt have copper used in the past..
