Sentencing for your next offense will be making you sit through Mrs. Peterson's 2 day class on "Our friend, the period."

Kirtis, you can add anything to your tank that your heart desires. However, why take the chance? In my opinion, you would probably be ok. If you really like it, I'd quarantine it for a month in a bucket of salt water and observe it.
People are correct here when they state that anything on that rock could contaminate your tank and could potentially kill all your fish. If I were you, I'd save up some of your allowance money and buy some lava rock instead!

I have my 55 now , yeah

I somewhat disagree with some of the things posted by others. Yes, if the rock that you want to put in your tank has alot of metals in it or the river has toxins, it is not advisable. But you can put different types of rock in your saltwater tank. I have a huge piece of green rock that I got at a LFS. It is leftover from when my tank used to be a brackish and had been in there for years and had no adverse effects. It has a nice layer of green "carpet" algae(which is isolated to this rock only) that is slowly eaten by my tangs and takes a long time to come back. Water parameters are near perfect and always have been.
Most people here are very knowledgeable and I ask alot of questions too, but remember, what works for one might not work for you. Just do your homework and keep asking questions. Good luck!

OK guys I have been reading back posts and all I have noticed a lot of the Q;s that he asks are kinda no brainers for the people that have had SW tanks for a while but you know what if you didnt do research before starting your tanks or knew someone that has had SW tanks that could help you out what would you know I can tell you this that when I started out I thought some of the things that he does mainly because of LFS;s told me that I soon learned the hard way that they are just there to sell fish(( there main money maker)(most of them)
now I dont mean to be disrespectful to anyone but some of you jump down his throat everytime he posts I have went back and read all of them and its not a good practice,, now on the other hand if you give him sound advice and he doesnt follow it then its on him but you cant say that you did try to tell him..
now to kirtis *(( not leaving anybody out of this one))* what LFS do you go to I know there are a lot here in AR that would rather take your money than see you have a succesful tank..and also from what I have read on this board you have had some good advice please read all replys to your posts and if you still dont think they are giving you good advice do some research on what you want to know you have the WWW to look things up but most answers are the ones that are being given to you now one this board....

dont get mad at me I am calling it as I see it and I do know somewhat of what I am talking about I have 9 tanks from 10gal to 150 gal I spend alot of time with my tanks and yes from time to time something comes up that I need help on even after 15 years of fish keeping on the other hand SW reef is relatively new to me and I am still learning alot from reading and researching things.

anyway kirtis if you want to email me so be it my addy is [email protected] I live in Searcy AR.
just start listeniing to info being given it will save you a lot of money and time in the long run!!!!!!
good luck to all .

Good question terrence, but, no easy answer. It completely depends on type. Limestone definetly changes ph, quartz has no effect at all.
