I had 2 for about 1.5 years. They never bothered anybody. Their arms were about 8 or 9" long. Then one day I came up missing my 2 damsels. Hmmmm. Next week no percola. Next week Flame hawk. I thought they were just dyeing and I couldn't find them. Finally after loosing about 6 fish, (and no shrimp BTW) the light bulb came on and I remembered having seen one of the nasty buggers all swelled up a week or 2 earlier. I thought he was sick and dyeing. Now I know all he needed was alkaseltzer. I won't say what he got instead.

The Green Brittle Star Saga again!! Like any other critters you put in your reef, it boils down to understanding and doing the research necessary to care for these awesome critters. I have a very large green brittle star in my 80 gallon reef tank which I feed raw shrimp, scallop, clam and spirulina discs every other day and the star is well mannered in the tank. It was very small when I got it and has grown alot since then. Here is a pic of it:
