Okay I have had this fish for about a week and a half now and he is doing very well (color speaking). He swims around the tank and has been responding very well to all types of food I give him. He is eating till he is almost round everyday (due to constant grazing and not me over feeding)... in any case he has had ick since the 3rd day in there and has been beating it for a while but the copper isn't irradicating it.

The tank has had CoperSafe brand tri-chelated copper in it for about 4 days now and even though there is less visible Ick, he is still getting it. To my knowledge the ick should be not visibly anymore ... and any encysted ick should be killed with the first 21 days.

Has anyone else found that copper takes a bit of time to get working or something?

Thnks

Have you tried soaking sheets of nori in garlic? I had great results acclimating a regal tang(ick magnet) to a FOWLR tank. This fish was healthy and eating going in, contracted ick after a couple of days, kept feeding the garlic/vitamin soaked nori and it went away in a couple of weeks. Call it voodoo or sound medicine, it worked for me.

I've only used copper once or twice and that was years ago so I can't help you there.

I have had no success using copper and have read some stuff that concerns me about its long term affect on fish.
IMO try using garlic.
If you insist on using chemicals, try Greenx which is in a green package and made by the same company that makes Ridx, Dipx etcetera.

Some of you guys obviously haven't read many books. There are tons of people on this board that are familiar with using Copper. Not only is it a great treatment but it does not cause much harm to them. The use of Garlic to fight Ick on fish other than tangs is useless.... even for those of us that have FOWLR or reef tanks... copper can be used in a quarantine tank as I am.

Would someone who has experience with using copper reply to this board... instead of jackasses trying to show off their knowledge.
I want to use copper... there is no reason why it shouldn't work... I know all about garlic and have used it on a Regal tang i have.

Also, Can someone on this board that uses Copper often answer his question. I am off this thread cause I feel like becoming a jackass.

Jackass, people are not flaunting thier knowledge, rather, they are telling you their own personal experiences with alternative methods.

Why is it that most of your inital threads concern dead or dying fish? Maybe someone didn't read enough themself.

My belief is why treat with medications if all a fish really needs is clean water and healthy foods.

Signing off cause I don't use copper.

Hey Jackass, why don't you correct whatever is causing the fish ICH instead of posting on how your fish keep getting sick? Let's see, it was a damsel, a pink skunk, a few chromis', and now a sailfin tang that are having problems since you bought them. People are giving suggestions to what has worked for them, you may want to listen instead of flushing $50 a week in fish down the toilet.

grrrrr!
don't expect copper to work in only 4-5 days!
if you have a test kit you would have known this, since copper is lethal you should have a test kit. it takes at minimun week and a half for the copper to peak. usually 2 weeks.
why is everyone pissed on this thread anyway?

SLPSS--because the original poster was kind of an *ss in his first reply on the thread. I know I won't be offering any help here...

I'd need to go and read some more books first, and besides, it looks like he already has all the answers...

Just one more comment, MediaOne. This is a reefs board. You're not going to find people on here with a lot of experience with copper. You're going to find people who treat their fish problems with reef-safe methods or use prophylactic methods to prevent parasites, like garlic. You might seek out a forum that is more oriented to fish-only systems, and I'm sure you'd bet more advice on the copper.
