I have a medium frogspawn that is growing several of the SMALLEST little new buds on the top of the three branches (at the very base of the flesh).

I assume this is a good thing...is it? I would love for this specimin to grow larger. Is there a way to facilitate the growth safely and effectively?

Thanks for the advice!

I've clipped those small buds off mine and crazy glued them to a rock. I used toe-nail clippers to remove them. All survived. I've got about 5 or 6 baby frogspawns growing in my tank. I'll be trading them-in in about a year or so.

Louey~

That's very encouraging. I would love to propagate mine!

How big were the clippings when you removed them? Mine are about the size of a pinhead right now. I assume I would lose them if I tried to cut them now. Did you do anything else special to the cuttings or the original frogspawn when you cut the buds?

Thanks again.

McReef,

The cuttings that I did were about a 1/2" long (tall)by maybe 1/8" wide. They were very small. I took some salt water from the tank and put it in a bowl. Put the mother colony in the bowl and sniped the buds off. Put mama back in tank right away. I then took each bud out one at a time and towel dried the end that gets glued and glued them to a small rock. I let the dry for a minute or so with out moving them. I used a pipette and dripped a little salt water on the for safe measure. I then put them back into the bowl for a few minute of curing before putting them back in the main tank. They now open up to about 1/2" 1o 3/4" wide with a dozen or so tenacles each. They seem to be somewhat slow growing. The mother colony has almost double in size in the 8-9 months I've had her. She originally had 5 heads. Each has split into 2 and some 3 heads. The heads have not yet completely seperated all issue, but close. The thing opens up about 8-10 inches wide. I try to post a picture later.

Ok, I up-loaded to pictures to my Reef Photo site. There's the link My reef

Look through the picture until you find the frag photos. I believe they're the last two.

What's cool is on the side view you can actually see the crazy glue. These pictures are about a month old. The frags have been mounted for 2 to 2-1/2 months. They've grown slightly since then. I wonder if a large growth spurt is forthcoming? That would be nice.

Thanks again for the info, Louey. Hopefully someday soon mine will be big enough to clip off!

Peace,

McReef
