A few quick questions:

1. Why do you have to let Kalkwasser sit overnight?

2. What is the white precipitate in the bottom of the container?

3. I use a medical doser hooked up to a Kent dosing container to dose kalkwasser. When I forget to mix and replenish the kalk, the doser quits and when it stops and I restart it, some of the precipitate ends up in the tank. Is this bad??

4. Also, there is a precipitate that forms like a stalagmite (or stalagtite? it goes down) from the drip tube in my sump. What is that stuff, and should I take care to remove it from the sump?

Short answer -- Calcium Carbonate, which is harmless but useless. Long answer -- read the nearby Kalkwasser thread by llowell, and all your questions will be answered.

Thanks B- After I posted, I noticed and read the other post. Excellent information. Thanks for the quick response.

You didn't say wether it was stalagtite or stalagmite, though!

Well, since the formations coming off the tube are going down, they'd be stalagtites (if they were in a cave, that is...). The ones that come up from the ground to meet the stalagtite is the stalagmite. You can remember this by the saying "A stalagtite holds tight; a stalagmite, might...
