I'm sure some of you have read my post recently about my tank being so out of wack...Extrmely low Ph and Alk and nothing, and I mean nothing, was fixing it. This problem started a few months ago and after ten years of running a reef tank (successfully I may add)my tank was crashing and I couldn't figure is out. I cannot tell you what I have been going thru the past couple of months...I have lost fish and corals up the ying-yang, some I even had for 9 years and I'm sure you all know how it feels when you lose something. Well, I'm sure you will all be glad to know that I have finally figured it out and some of you may be very, very suprised. I can't even tell you how many water changes and test I have done on my tank thru the months only to find my tank in the exact same caos. I have read every bit of literature on the web trying to figure it out and fix it, and then bang! I come across this sentence that blew me away, It went someting like this... 'After weeks and weeks I have given you advice on your problem and I'm sorry to say it makes no sence chemically. Your not by any chance adding CORAL VITAL to your tank are you? I heard that it can change the chemical makeup of the ions in your tank and its all down hill from there". I couldn't believe it! I knew right away by that sick feeling I had that it was the culprit. I would actually change 25% of the water in my 95gal week after week and must have cycled that water ten times over thru the months, All the while adding Coral Vital. Well guys, 50% water change and NO Coral Vital and 4 days later...there it is, Alk 4.4,Ph 8.4, and thats up from Alk 2.5 and Ph 7.8 for the high. Can you guys believe it? Thanks to everyone for the advice and help.

95galreef--glad you found the problem. I got the impression from your other thread that you weren't doing water changes regularly. My bad. I'm glad things are coming into line for you!

Were you testing the water soon after adding the CV? When I tried the stuff, it seem to change the ph only for a little while after dosing.
