naesco, I am guilty....

Thank you for being gentle.

However, I do have him now, and he is doing very well. Some of the problems I had in keeping him fed, I think can be translated to other small growing fish. I would never recommend one (CT), until much later in my life and his, should I be so lucky.

I really must stop trying to save them all...

I would rather buy them younger than older. The younger ones, if you get a healthy batch, will adjust to your tank rather quickly, and will start eating like a pig. I don't think it matters what you do to them before you toss them into your tank, they're bound to break out in ich as some point or another.

I think it's terrible to remove a hippo from the wild. These animals are endangered! And, my god, putting it in a tank? That's cruel. They can grow to well over 1500 lbs! In the wild they have miles of African river bottom on which to roam - I know your hippo won't have to worry about predators, but that's small consolation for the cramped, miserable life you're sentencing this tremendous animal to. I think PETA should be notifi..........what? A hippo tang ? Oh....never mind.

He's the best! He scraped himself up a little on the rock (I assume) but he's healing up nicely. I really must borrow a digital camera.
