ETSS Skimmer Break In???

First I would like to say that this is a great site, I have gotten alot of good info in the past. Be that as it may I have a slight problem maybe you all can help me with it...I bought a skimmer on ebay a month aga and it leaked slightly I asked what to use to fix it and somone suggested "Weldon 16" well I used that and fixed the problem again thanks. Which brings me to my second problem...I plumbed it and connected it to my Iwaki 40 pump and it foams too wet. So I cut back with the pump output a little (ball valve) and it foams then drops inside the chamber to almost nothing. I tried to adjust the discharge on the skimmer discharge as well but cant get it right. I need set by step instructions I guess. Oh the model is a ETSS gemini 750. Thanks

I don't use that brand of skimmer, but I've found out that when your foam is too wet, cut back on the amount of air that is being injected and adjust the water flow accordingly. That worked for me.

I have the same skimmer (actually, 2 of them). If I recall correctly, you can adjust the "wetness" of the skimmate by adjusting the number of bio-balls in the downdraft tubes. I think you add bio-balls to decrease the "wetness" of the foam. I will double-check the instructions and get back to you if I have got it wrong.

I had an ETSS 750 I now have an ETSS 800. The 800 is easier for me to control. I almost never need to adhust it. I have to clean it weekly as it does get quite scummy.
On my ETSS 750 I set the pump out let valve and let it be. I made all my adjustments with the outflow on the skimmer. Once i was happy with the results I left it alone and did not readjust it after feeding etc. During the adjustment period i made very smalladjustments at a time and let the skimmer run for several hours before i increased or decreased the flow from the skimmer.

I have the skimmer. Couple of points to make it run at max. Change the bio balls every six months or so. Frequently clean the elbow to the collection cup. If it's clogged at all, that will restrict the powerful air flow through the cup. Finally, clean the air intakes every few months. Same reason: anything that restricts the air flow really slows down this skimmer.

Otherwise, it's very hardy and powerful.

Thank You for your response I have the book myself I cant seem to get it right I guess I have to make small adjustments at a tome (1/4 to half turn) at a time. On ething that I did notice is that I have to cut the pump out put back alittle more than I thought that I would have too. I figured I could leave it wide open and make adjustments with the discharge but if I run it wide open and the discharge wide open I still get too wet of foam. Again thanks for the help.
