I am interested to know if the pH of a kalk solution increases soluble silicate also dripped to the tank. I have a hunch (see post http://www.reefs.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=028173 )that dosing kalk increases available silicate; especially if tap water is used.

Anyone wants to test their make-up water and kalk solution? If not, I will try to get a test and post results in a few weeks.

Thanks.

I would help you but my test kit (Salifert) doesn't work for samples with alkalinity more than 20 dKH (7.1 meq/l).

Sorry.

(I did try though... My tap water tested 2 mg/l SiO2 and limewater 0 mg/l)
