Hi,
I just recently added a Yellow Clown Goby to my tank and it immediately took up residence in a colony I've had for a couple of months. Since then this acro will not put out any polyps during the day and barely if any at night. There are also two other acros near this colony (Green Acropora and Acropora Youngeii) that now only barely put out polyps during the day. But expand their polyps fully at night.

Is there any sort of explanation? should I remove the goby or just let it pass? The two frags seem to be growing still. I can't tell with the colony but it appears to still be coloring up since its past life in someone's PC lit tank.
I've attached a few pics

I have the same question, plus one other... I heard that they can be poisonous to the tank when they die.

On the other hand, I have read that chromos -damsels live amoungst the acros in the wild and actually help them, via their

That is the natural area for a yellow clown goby in the wild so I wouldn't imagine he would hurt your acros. There skin is toxic but I would think they would be too small to do much damage if they died. Like most gobies, they are jumpers.

I have heard of a few first hand experiences where those gobies pick at SPS polyps. I have a G. histrio in a small tank that I never added to my reef for that reason.

I have a black clown goby and I swear I've seen him take nips at my newly arrived sps frags! I am not 100% positive but I have been seeing too many of threads concerning these fish on other boards as well. I had a blue tip that was blanketed with polyps and now not a one comes out. The new frags that had longer polyps have not been out for two weeks now. He's a cool looking little guy but he was $12 versus what I paid for those frags! If I catch him, he's off to the LFS.

I love to have these clown goby in my tank. They don't bother my coral as far as I can see. While it may be possible that they orcasionally nipped at the polyp, they donot causr any permanet problem. The Acropora that my yellow clown goby seside in is always open fully. I really missed having crabs and goby living in my SPS since all my SPS are tank raised.
