I was just looking a Emm B's site and i saw that she had 3 250's over a 150gallon tank. I was wanting to put 3 250W double ended Aqualine 10k HQI's over a 200G - L6" x H 25' x w 25'.
Just wondering if it's going to be sufficient for SPS. But theni suppose this question is a little premature seen as it will be ages till i get the £2000 or so needed for the unit.
Hi Mouse,
Why dont you get a Giesemam or Arcadia 3x250w half the price.Or if you go on to the German mail order sites the Aqualine units are a lot cheaper.(i dont know if you can use them in the Uk though?)
John
oh UjohnK, well the Arcadia lamps suck, big time. And the Guiessemann lights are about the same price once you bought the computer and moonlight bulbs and timers to meet the spec of the Aqualine ones.
Plus i have heard so many people say the Aqualine bulbs are good.
The double ended lamps generally have higher PAR. So you generally get more output from them over mogul base lamps.
I'm not so sure. I was talking with Richard Harker a couple of weeks back and he pointed out to me something I missed. In Sanjay's old 250w MH bulb article, the 10000K double ended bulb scored the highest PAR value. But if you look at Sanjay's material, it comes out this bulb was tested without a glass shield (required, in actual operation, and almost certain to have a noticeable impact on PAR numbers) and with a reflector (which most of the other tested bulbs did not have recourse to).

Read the latest test in reefs 2002. The 150 hqi actually put out more par than some 400watt mogul bulbs. This was with the glass shield. hqi in comparable watts put out more than mogul bulbs, even iwasaki.
Its just that Deltec bought out these cheap <read hellishly expensive but in comparison to a normal chiller> chillers called the Eco Seris. I was thinking with one of these i could go for 400W bulbs but if the HQI's are so good i might go with those still.
