The more a fish eats (shrimp & hermits too), the more waste it produces, correct? Would this be considered overfeeding, ie keeping them stuffed? Or, is the problem the food that is NOT consumed and then begins to decay. I recently started having a film of green algae growing on the front glass which needs to be cleaned every other day. I started feeding the tank a little more heavily lately, but everything seems to be devoured rather quickly. Could overfeeding be the cause of the algae blooms?
Thanks, Greg

People are definitely going to tell you that overfeeding COULD be the cause of your algal blooms, but people will need more information. Overfeeding leads to algae by increasing your Nitrates, what are the results of your most recent tests? It could be the water you're using as well, but I'm assuming that hasn't changed recently. Also, is this a well established tank? If not, the Algal bloom could be just a part of the process.

Over feeding causes other problems, too. Of course, the key is to learn all you can about your tank inhabitants. I agree that the first question would be "how well established is your tank aka how long has it been set up.. how many fish.. etc etc"

Almost all food also has Phosphates and that always will cause aglae problems. I rinse all my food with RO/DI water.
