In my quest for adding "Just one more thing" to my 29g reef tank, would a blue LED be a good idea for a nightlight? I keep my tank in the basement and it gets pretty dark down there. Radio Shack carries a blue LED with a wavelength of 468 nm. Would this be okay? Any suggestions are always greatly appreciated!

Many of the blue LEDs you can get are not very bright. This contrasts with the super-bright red LEDs that are commonly available.

So one blue LED might not be enough.

You can always start with one and keep adding them until you have visible light over the whole tank.

I've seen commercial products along these lines for sale - so in principle it will work.

Thank you! I just wanted to make sure it was not going to affect the photoperiod. (I don't want to keep them up all night!!!)
