To anyone who runs Calcium reactors on their systems,do you use any additives and/or other foods to feed the corals and keep them healthy?

Additives aren't needed.

Food on the other hand is. Phyto and any slurry you can make out of regular fish foods

Depends what the media in the reactor is.

If it's just calcium carbonate then you may need to add strontium.

If it's crushed coral, or similar, then you won't need to add anything.

All I add is Lugols Iodine once a week at the regular dosage. Of course, food for the fish.

I have a few questions:

Why do people drip Kalk and run a reactor?

Will the water PH balance out to 8.1-8.3 range (I remember reading some place that reactors may lower PH, if so what is everyone using to buffer it back up to the proper range.

What are you thoughts about knop's koralith media? Any additives needed when using that as media.

I just started my new reactor this past weekend (for 2nd time - first time I had regulator problems with used regulator) so I'm waiting to see if things will balance out.

Thanks,
Craig
