In your hoods?
I'm presently designing mine for my 90 gallon and am confused/undecided where to place them. I plan on having two. Light will consist of 2 -250 watt Iwasakis with Icecap acinic supplementation.
Thanks!
Thanks,
On my 55 with only 4-VHO right now, I just use one fan mounted on the back. I know I need two now for the upgraded lights and such. I have seen pics of people mounting them on the side, but I don't think that is too asethetic. I never thought about aiming them at the water vice the bulbs. I have read posts concerning the cooling of the bulbs can change the color output of them.
Anymore thoughts? Anyone?
I've read that blowing a fan directly on a MH bulb will shorten it's lifespan. FWIW My first bulb failed prematurely, I was blowing directly from the other side of the hood. I added some PC lights and a barrier so the air flow is more dispersed in my hood. BTW my hood is enclosed except for the 4" fan blowing in one side and a similar sized exit hole on the other side of the hood.
I just completed a hood for my 29g that contains a 250w MH and 4 flourescents. It is 14" high with an open back. I attached two 3" radio shack fans to the top cross brace in the back blowing down at an angle onto the water.
The bulb is 11.5" off the surface. Before I kicked on the MH my temp was at 82F. I turned on the fans and all lighting for one hour. After one hour my temp had actually DROPPED to 80F!
Just my experience that blowing on the water is more succesful than blowing out hot air from the hood or blowing cool air on the bulb.
