Thought this article might be of interest to you all. Apparently scientists are studying parts of a brittlestar's optical system, in hopes of reproducing it for use in optical networking (fiberoptics)

The only thing I find annoying about this, the NPR story and the AP wire story is the use of the term 'primitive' to describe these critters. Thems fightin' words....
