Thinking of either the Berlin Turbo HOB,Zambezi 1000 HOB,or The ETS HOB. The same questions exist like:

What is the clearance needed for the Berlin and the ETS?
I only have 8 inches from tank to wall.

Thanks
Dan

Hey Dan, I'm not sure of the dimensions of the Berlin or the ETS. I had the same problem as you. I got all different widths also, but if you are worrying about the width of a HOB have you thought about a Remora Pro it's only 3.25"

The Knop is not a bad skimmer. I had it on a 55 gallon that I used to have. I now use an Aqua-C EV-150 on my 90 gallon(Which is a great skimmer) and I keep the Knop HOB as a back up. It did rather well on the 55 gallon. I do have to warn you that is is kind of noisy though. You can hear a crackling noise(air and water mixing) coming from the venturi valve.

I have no sump and I don't have the room for a stand alone. I am not going to get a sump either.

55 gallon tank
380watt Icecap VHO
CPR bakpak
CPR 18" refuge
Maxi jet 1200
Aquaclear 802
Powersweep 270gph
2x150watt heaters
3-5 in sandbed
100-125 lbs of LR

3 Bubbletip anemones
1 sebae anemone
xenia
star polyps
shrooms
zooanthids
halimeda
sea grass
caulerpa in sump
turbo snails
nassarius snails
1 red legged hermit crab

1 tomato clown
1 damsel
1 yellow tang
1 clarkes clown

I don't mind if I overskim now. I do not want to waste any cash.

I am between two skimmers now:

1.Berlin turbo HOB

2.Aggressor 250

Thanks

Dan

Since you don't plan on getting a sump in the future, any skimmer that is rated for 150-200 gallons will work. You always want a skimmer that is rated for at least twice your tank size. What i'm thinking is for you to get one of these skimmers at the above mentioned size and when you get the larger tank, just get another one and have two hang on skimmers running. This would be plenty and you wouldn't be wasting money.

In which case, I would not go with the Knop. Knop skimmer are rated for 100 gallons. I would say no bigger than 75 gallons in my opinion.

I think I'll get the Aggressor 250 and add on the CPR when I get the new tank.

Thanks

Dont go for the scum sucker, i had a titan (scum suckers big brother) and it was the worst skimmer i have ever seen in my life. By the time i chucked it in, i was on my third fraxination body due to numerous faults and my second flood. D&D suck!!!!!!!!

ANEMONEBUFF, have you considered the skimmers from My Reef Creations? Andy's skimmers' are built with future upgrade options in mind. This way you just add on parts to handle larger systems. I just ordered one from him, and it is well built and works like a charm. [email protected]

Anemone, if you are planning a larger set up in the near future you may just want to wait and get a good skimmer then. H.O. skimmers are crap. Don't believe Red Sea's claims about tank size capabilities and the other companies are probably yankin' your chain too.
