Tidepool II with DSB setup

I have a 250gal with CC and a Tidepool II, I want to convert to DSB and wanted to know what mechanical filter would be best. Tank was setup for fish only when I bought the house, now I want to convert to a reef with DSB.

If you are converting to a reef with DSB, no mechanical filtration will be necessary. The live rock and sand will provide the surface area necessary for the biofiltration bacteria, and your corals and the critters that live on/in the rocks and sand will handle the particulate matter.

If I remove the bio-wheel and leave the pre-filters in place can I still use it for water movement?

Absolutely! It helps aerate the water and provide surface movement.
