Hi, Had a cleaner wrasse for a week now who started eating and swimming around the very first day. Yesterday, he was late in coming out; about half an hour after the lights turn on in the morning. Today, he has not come out yet after 3 hours already. Do these guys bury themselves in the sand just like most wrasses? I have 1 bicolor angel, 1 yellow damsel, 1 mandarin, 1 juvenile dragon wrasse, 1 percula, 1 coral banded shrimp, 1 blue damsel. Is is possible that one of these guys harassed or ate the wrasse?

He might have been killed, and it's just as well if he was. Cleaner wrasses don't eat well, and almost always die in captivity. This is a known truism with this fish. Try and read up a bit on a species you are interested in, wiegh the pros and cons, and purchase accordingly.

I had the same thing happen to mine. I went on vacation though for about 3 days, came back and he was gone. I have a really mean spotted hawkfish and I figure he was the culprit, he always is harassing other fish, guess I'll never know though.

Check you overflow and your sump. I have found mine in my overflow about 10 times and once in my sump.

Most likely your wrasse has died to starvation and is in his favorite sleeping hold. Mine is about 3 months old and eats brine, formula one and nori but time will tell how long he will last.

Thanks for the replies. My drain to the sump is covered with a net; he can't be in the sump. My tank is almost covered but with a slim chance, he may have jumped/sneaked thru the little opening; i'll check the floor tonight. Lastly, he was aggresively eating frozen bloodworms just yesterday, unlikely that he died of starvation; at least not yet. But Ok, from now on, i'll shy away from these cute little guys.
