Just bought 2 used MH hamilton pendants with the enclosed ballasts contained in the pentant.

I need to replace the bulbs asap and want to go with 400 Watt 6500K - Iwasaki or 400 Watt 10000K - Iwasaki.

The problem I have is, how can I tell if my pendants use a 400 watt of a 250 watt bulb?

Can the pendant use either bulb? i can't get to the ballast, It's enclosed in the pendant and it didn't come with any bulbs so I can't check the wattage there.

help!

thanks
Bruce

I would call Hamilton's Customer Service, they should be able to tell you how to find out.

Folks he's talking about Hamilton's "Reef-Sun" pendant which does have a built-in ballast except for the 400W HQI which is remote.

Check the model # as well if it has one, that will usually say something like ReefSun175 or RS-250 or something.

Is there any serial # or anything like that? There has to be something. I'd email Hamilton with that info and ask them what the wattage is.

I wasn't aware that Hamilton sold pendants with enclosed ballasts, and to be quite honest, I can't imagine why you would buy them without knowing what wattage they are. Unless of course, you got them very cheap.

The only way I know of determining the wattage is to open then up somehow, and try to find a tag on the ballast. I don't think I would just stick a bulb in there. They could be 1000 or 1500 watt, who knows.
