Need return pump advice.............

I am currently searching for a replacement pump to return water from my sump. I have tried the Rio's(and yes mine burned up too) and do not want to go that route again. My tank is relativeley small(46g BF) so I do not need a large pump. I have been looking at the following. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

The pump that I use must be submersible and I would like one that will not melt and send toxic oil spills all over my tank as my last pump did after only 6 months. I would also appreciate any suggestions on flow rate for a 46g tank. I know that the claimed flows above are probably at 0 feet of head but do not want to overpower such a small tank. Thanks.

At the bottom of that page is a series of pump curves for the Mag pumps in case you haven't seen it already. Might help you, might not.

I'm kinda in the same but different boat: I'm looking for an external pump to return to my 50 gal and I'm probably going to either pick an Iwaki MD 30 RDXL (960 gph @ 4' head) or a GRI #510 or #518. Why does your pump need to be an internal pump anyhow? For externals, the Iwaki's and GRI's are great...

Liquidshaneo: In refference to your question, I would prefer a submersible pump due to the fact that my sump is a 10g tank. This tank would be very hard to drill for a bulkhead and the space under the tank is all but taken by the sump itself. I would love a external pump but do not have the room or accesability to use one.

Sniper, I have the same tank and just went through the same thing!!

I started with a MAG 7 and must say I was completely disappointed with it's performance! For almost the same price I then tried a SEN 700. Major difference, the Sen put a lot more water back into my tank. I am using the Sen 700 on a Sea Swirl, along with 2 Maxijet power heads on a wave strip and I am very happy!! I don't think it is too much, seems just right, my corals love the added current!!

BTW, The Sen can go either way internal or external of the sump!!
