What's your alk, calcium and iodine levels? Do you dose anything else? Xenia can start to fail when your alk dips down, but the pom poms are usually the more susceptible to crashing versus the elongata IME. Also, it is my understanding that they consume a lot of iodine out of the water, as well as strontium and molybdenum.

I don't know my iodine and strontium levels, but calcium is 400, and my hardness is 10º.
I should mention that I added garlic to the tank when I reintroduced my two fish this past Sunday. Could it be the garlic?

The fact of the matter is that quite a bit of controversy exists surrounding xenia. The last xenia I had looked great, pumped nicely, and then totally crashed withing 48 hours.

I have heard potential problems for xenia being:

too much nitrate, low ph, low alk, low iodine, too much iodine, not enough light, predator (crab), and depletion of other trace elements...

Some people can't stop xenia from growing while others can't get it to survive, personally I think a lot has to do with the specific specimen. Good luck!

Looks like my elongata are losing their "fins". Any ideas? My other pom-pom's are fine and propagating.
T = 80º
pH = 8.4
Nitrate = 18 ppm
Nitrite = 0.05
Ammonia = 0
Lights = (2) 96 PC's (2) 175's, but the elongata are near (6") from the surface.
Thanks in advance!
