Hi,

I started one stalk of Xenia several months ago in my 90G. It went very well and kept growing until few weeks ago, it splited into two.

Suddenly two nights ago, the smaller stalk stops expanding. It shrinks into a very small pile. The bigger stalk, which is just next to the smaller one, is normal.

There are a few mushrooms next to the Xenia, but they have been there since the Xenia started.

Amonia, NO2 and NO3 are all zero. All seven fish in the tank look normal as well.

I wonder what could have happened to the smaller one. Please help.

Thanks!

You mean it just curls up and stays that way? All the time? Mine curl up at night but are pulsing like crazy all day.

I have heard that mushrooms can put xenia in its place though.

Tangirl,

It curls up day and night for two days already. The mushrooms have been next to the Xenia from day one. Therefore, I do not suspect the mushrooms.

Thanks!

check your alkalinity. When mine drifts my xenia is always affected first.

My xenia either goes through cycles, or has small crashes. Every now and then, it stops pulsing and doesn't expand (sometimes only a little - sometimes I swear it is dead), and then slowly recovers. Must be happy - it is growing like crazy.
