What will happen if I raise the salinity in my hypo q-tank rather quickly, say 4-5 days instead of 2 weeks. The reason I ask is that my mandarin has been in the q-tank in hyposalinity for 26 days, it took me 5 days to get the salinity down to 1.010, so he has been in there for 31 days. Despite feeding him baby brine and other things I believe he has been refusing to eat. He is looking skinny and appears to be less able to swim around, he mostly just sits in the corner. I think he may be in bad shape. I want to put him back in the reef ASAP where there are lots of pods for him. I think he will die soon if I don't. The tank has been fish free for 31 days, I was hoping to keep it that way for closer to 45. I would only want to stick him back in there, the other fish in quarantine are doing great.

I know the recommendation is 2 weeks but I don't think he will make 2 weeks. I am not sure he will make 1 week, heck I don't know if he will survive period but I think his best chances are to get back in the reef tank ASAP. What are the problems with a much shorter acclimation to a higher salinity. Today it is at 1.013 up from 1.011 from yesterday which was up from 1.010 the day before. Any advice?

jaydse, all fish went into quarantine as a bad case of ICH abounded, due to a O2 deprivation incident in November. I tried garlic for 6 weeks with no end in site and the ICH was getting worse. The mandarin never got it, but I chose to quarantine all fish in hyposalinity and keep the tank fish free for the requisite 30+days.

slowjmn Sounds like you don't have a choice, eh.
I wouldn't make a larger change but I would do it more frequently. If you have some of that garlic left try enticing her with her favourite food soaked in it as sometimes garlic helps with the appetite.
Keep a bunch of pods waiting for her.
