I have trouble with that one. My LTA has been in many tanks over the past years. Never an aggressive anemone, although it eats well.

Current reef has four anemones, never a fish death.

UNLESS: You have a clownfish, big. (Could that be a maroon ?) I had a few clowns that would drag in things ten times their weight.

I’ve been thinking about getting an Anemone for my 2 clown fish. It will be my fist coral so I am not sure what to get. I know that my clowns don’t necessarily require a host Anemone but I would like to try anyways. What suggestions can anyone make? I don’t want a huge one but I will be the centrepiece of tank. I have made a nice ledge in the tank but I read that Anemone can move so it might fall of the ledge. What suggestions can you offer about locations?

Many thanks!

HI BCReefer

Yes I thought about an Anemome for my pair of gold-striped maroon clowns. However I purchased a
Green Tree coral -(Dr Mac has a pic on his web site) and the clowns think this is great and live in the frons of this soft coral (which doesn't seem to mind either). So maybe that is a better choice for you. It took a couple of weeks for the male to take up residence and the female caught on a week or two later.

Cheers
Paul

Dave, welcome to the club. I abandoned my anemone to the LFS when I once came back and saw a seahorse head sticking out of the mouth of the carpet (yeah, it happened when I still don't know crap about the reef animals).

Get over it, and make sure you feed him (the anemone) well. BTW, what kind is it and how big? Usually foxface shouldn't fell prey to the anemones.

My Anemone is a Long Tentacle Anemone about softball size.

He is a sneaky bastard, He has always allowed the Six line, Cardinals, and Foxface swim through his tentacles without any problems. Of course my Maroon Clown is always near by.

BTW he is well feed and no plans on him going anywhere, he is still my favorite. Ivy is much more bitter.

I have had my haddoni carpet anemone for almost 3 years now. Its eaten a purple tang(70 bucks)
a spotted hawk, a mandarin, 1 or 2 lyretail anthias..and probably a few others. All in all near 200 bucks of fish. I literally found the skeleton of a fish after digestion of the hawkfish. Interesting.
He always has been well fed too. I only keep it cause ive had it so long, my maroon clown loves it, and ..well...not too many get to keep em this long so I feel honored.

Get used to it. Any slow, perching, or dumb fish will get eaten.
