They are more like Nudie Brancs than conches, i can see how the back of them does look like a shell but its actually just their slimy little back. Seen loads diving stuck to Goinoporas, but if you have a system that can grow Goinoporas at a rate that could support these little guys munching on them then you officially deserve the title of Grandmaster Reef Keeper. Glad to see your concern has lead you to check here first, those LFS can be such a tease. "Buy me, buy me"... they whisper........Best let some ignoramus kill it, such a shame. Mind you chances are he was probably a hitch hiker, still shame.

Actually, its a type of hard snail. It just looks like a nudibranch because the mantle covers the shell when its extended. Mouse, if you are saying it feeds on goniopora then you are describing a pacific organism, which must be something different. I have only seen flamingo tongues in the caribbean on sea fans.

They do have a hard shell, cool. Never make a point of poking things when i dive.

Message for Worm - Is there anything that's Illegal in Bancock.

P.S. got confused with the goinoporas, damn latin jibberings.

Hello all!

These snails are very common here in Florida and are legal to harvast. They only eat sea-fans and grogonian(sp?) corals. They are quite healthy eaters and would make short work of a reef tank with sea-fans and grogonian corals. They would starve in a tank without its specialized food source. How can a LFS justify stocking such a creature.

If I saw one in a store, I would ask them what it eats and how to keep it alive. If they give the wrong answer or don't know, I would inform them that they are stocking a species which is almost imposible to keep alive. If they gave the right answer then I would ask them how they justify stocking it. Sorry to go off, just makes me mad.

Chris
