I have the same tank. And again, I know you said no MH's for whatever reason. However, just as a point of reference for you when you ARE ready. I have had (just moved everything into a smaller tank) a single Aqualine HQI 150 fixture, and a single 96 watt smartlamp. It's been PLENTY of light, clams and corals were doing fine.

i have a 92 gallon corner reef tank . Putting in lps and softies (sps if light allows) Space on top, because of its shape (one quarter of a circle) limits my lighting options. for a few reasons i cant use metal halide. now the question. what wattage is required for this reef? is the rule of thumb of watts per gallon different for vho and powercompact? what is the rule of thumb?

I know you said you can't use MH's but I have the same 92 gallon tank. Nice tank hunh? Anyway I bought one of those pendent lamps from CustomSealife. It's a 400 watt MH with two 32 watt acintics. I made little legs for it and set it right on the glass. In my opinion it looks pretty good. At first I was going to use the lighting from my original tank which consisted of 4 55 watt 50/50's. I would have needed to add a couple more of these at least and I just couldn't think of a way to make it look good on the top of the tank. So if you can take a look at the customsealife website and check out their pendent lights. Also I don't really think there is a hard and fast rule about watts per gallon. I just think the more the better.
