Hi all,
I have accepted the fact that I have to modify my SeaClone,I've been skimmerless for 3 days, I have been trying to remove the centre column to cut it down and then add an airstone. Speaking of airstones, the smallest wooden airstone I was able to find wont even fit in the column. How have you gotten the middle part out of your Seaclones, and have you tried a small glass beaded airstone instead of a wooden one ?

This is very frustrating,
Thanks In Advance,
Patti

With the airstones you have to cut the corners off them to get them down the tube. When i was trying to get the inner tube out i broke it,

. but i just got some flexible tubing and replaced it with that. It works ok but you might want to consider that i am now running skimmerless as i only have 1 manderin and a rock blenny in my 25. Along with more live rock than Woodstock.

If you are using a Seaclone, I am afraid you have been skimmerless for your entire life. Consider an upgrade to a Backpack or Remora C. You won't regret it.

With a good airstone (keep monitoring it and change when needed) and a good air supply (Get a check valve for on your air line so that you can tweek it. You will also want to keep using the airline that goes into the powerhead. Buy a better air check valve for it.) you will get just as good performance if not better out of your Modified Seaclone as you will with a Remora.

You can find skinny airstones that fit. I have't had to widdle any airstones. Go for the glass ones. They seem to produce finer bubbles.

The Remora is over-rated, or maybe just over-priced.

The Remora is over-rated, or maybe just over-priced, or both.

The regular remora is both -- although it is more powerful then an unmodified bakpak or seaclone. I always suggest going with the remora pro rather then the remora. While it's not exactly cheaply priced, it is the most powerful hang-on next to the superpowered (and rather huge and expensive) lifereef model.
