Hey, I'm looking for a check valve for the return hose to my tank. You know, to keep it from siphoning back into the sump. I found one at a local hardware store, but I'm thinking it was more of a flow restricter as it restricted the flow to the tank pretty good (yes it was installed properly cause it cut off the flow completely the other way).
Any body know anywhere online I can pick one up? I checked pet warehouse and while the have them listed, there not in stock and their site says they won't back order anything under $10.00. Thanks for the input.

I know that the holes could get clogged so you drill 2 in each return line in your tank and clean them weekly. It's just holes are easier to clean since you have to almost always gule your valve in place and they are a pain to clean. Everyone you I know that have used the valves say after time with out cleaning they will still leak a bit.

I placed the narrow end of the barrel of a 10cc oral syringe (available at most pharmacies) in the hole to keep it open and cleared. I still have to clean it and the tubing about yearly, though.

The holes in the line works the best, the check valves will clog with salt after time and cost way to much than drilling a small hole or 2.

I have a WYE check valve. You can get them from Champion Lighting for about $35. They're not cheap, but they don't restrict the flow much and mine seems reliable. I take it apart when I do water changes to clean it out and keep it working smoothly.
